‘I Think He’s a Star Trek Fan’: Stashwick Gives New Paramount Boss Thumbs Up
Actor gives his thoughts on David Ellison
After a year or so of looking for corporate par'Mach in all the wrong places, Paramount finally seems to have found a suitor willing to consummate the relationship.
But is our long fan nightmare finally over?
This has been the question uppermost on my mind, as a Star Trek fan, since Skydance Media announced plans to acquire Paramount.
Although there’s been much written since the merger announcement, there hasn’t actually been too many specifics — and almost none when it comes down to the plans for Star Trek that Paramount’s future boss, billionaire David Ellison, might be entertaining.
Which is why any tea leaves from someone at all knowledgeable is welcome.
And we caught a glimpse of that recently from Todd Stashwick, the wonderful actor who played our favorite prick of a starship captain, Liam Shaw, in Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard.
Artist Jenny R. Johnson, a Star Trek fan and one of the crew over at Star Trek And Chill, recently hosted Stashwick for a chat on her Instagram Live, where he was asked about the potential for the new regime finally to greenlight the spinoff series fans have been clamoring for, for the last year or so: Star Trek: Legacy.
Legacy essentially would pick up where Picard left off aboard the USS Enterprise-G under its new captain, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan).
Stashwick certainly was not definitive but indicated a willingness to return if Legacy became reality.

In doing so, he also offered something of an endorsement of Ellison, the son of tech billionaire David Ellison:
I don’t have a crystal ball. I know that David Ellison is a good man. He is the Skydance [CEO]... I don’t know. I think he’s a Star Trek fan. Uh, I don’t know. That would be a question for them. I think there’s always a chance that they could do a Legacy. It’s just not gonna happen this year [and] probably not next year. Terry Matalas is tied up doing other stuff. So they’d probably have to wait til he’s available. So I don’t have an answer for you.
The showrunner for Picard’s final season, Terry Matalas would have been the natural also to helm Legacy as well.
Granted, it’s not much to go on.
But we know that Stashwick is both a great talent and a considerable Star Trek fan.
And that will have to be our reassurance for the moment, at least, that our beloved franchise will soon fall into capable and respectful hands.
